Step one - Retaining our Design Services
An initial design consultation is arranged at your home, with no cost or obligation, to meet and discuss your needs and ideas. You may then contact us should you decide to retain our design services. Design work is billed on reasonable hourly bases.

Step Two - Preliminary plan development
McHugh Design & Construction uses computer aided design technology to produce our plans. This provides a time (and cost) saving process that also allows for easy changes to the plan as it develops. We will first present several preliminary designs. From these the most desirable aspects will be taken to arrive at a initial layout.

Step Three - Materials Selection
A list of material needed will be produced and we will begin the selection process. Because the designer is also an experienced contractor, he can help clients understand the pros and cons of design choices and materials selections.

Step Four - Final plan and specification
After thoughtful consideration to the homeowners’ needs and budget, a final set of plans and specifications is delivered. This package generally contains floor plans, elevations, details, and in many cases structural drawings. It also will contain the all important construction specification, detailing in writing every material, and the scope of work, broken down by construction category.

Step Five - Construction Bid
We present a proposal to you to complete the project, including an exact price, not a general estimate. At this point you are under no obligation to award the construction contract to McHugh Design and Construction. You have purchased from us a complete set of construction documents that may be used to solicit bids from multiple contractors.

Step Six - Award of Contract
Once you make the decision of contracting the construction with our firm, a start date is worked out, a schedule is developed, permits obtained, and we begin the work.

Step Seven - Construction Payments
No money up front. That’s right, unlike most contractors no up front down payment is required. Written payment requests, broken down by work category and percentage complete, are submitted for work completed and stored, or for down-payments on special order products only.

Step Eight - The Construction Process
We emphasize communication, organization, and time management in order to provide a remodeling project that flows smoothly and efficiently. Under careful management and direction our team of highly qualified sub-contractors and employees will produce the finished space that realizes your dream, on time, and on budget.
